AROMATHERAPY FAQs
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are fragrant chemical compounds with high complexity derived from raw, natural material of plant origin obtained by one of a few different distillation methods. All our essential oils are sustainably sourced and provide the absolute best quality and efficacy.
Are your essential oils organic?
While our products are natural, not all are certified organic. This is because we strive to source the very best quality ingredients, and in some instances, we believe there are greater benefits from sourcing an ingredient in its natural habitat rather than from an organic farm. For example, our Aromatherapy Associates Lavender is from the Alps rather than an organic farm in the UK.
What press are your essential oils?
Our blends use a complex combination of many extracts, each chosen for its superior quality for a specific application, therefore they will vary based on what the best quality available is per essential oil.
Can I use the essential oil blends on my skin?
No. Our very highly concentrated, undiluted, pure essential oil blends are specifically designed for controlled diffusion into the air using Aera Microdroplet Technology. This diffusion method creates an aroma effect with ultra-low trace quantities in the air, usually less than 10 molecules in every million. The pure essential oil in our capsules is 100,000 times stronger and may cause irritation if applied directly to skin or not used as directed.
Do we test on animals?
No!
How long do capsules of the aromatherapy blends last?
Fragrance capsules last on average 500-800 hours, based on an average scent level of 3, and can vary a little by fragrance. You can set your ideal level based on room size and personal preference. Using the AeraForHome app with an Aera Smart diffuser to set scenting schedules will prolong the life of your capsule.
How is Aera different than a traditional aromatherapy diffuser?
Traditional ultrasonic aromatherapy diffusers use water and a few drops of essential oil to generate a dense wet vapor of droplets. These droplets fall (typically in less than a minute) leaving residues on nearby surfaces. Aera uses pure essential oils and no water. Its Microdroplet Technology infuses a room with perfectly calibrated invisible aroma molecules which seamlessly blend with ambient air to create a unique wellness environment. The scent effect is completely uniform and leaves no residues.
Traditional ultrasonic diffusers can diffuse oil 1 to 15 hours before they need to be refilled. The diffuser and adjacent surfaces need to be cleaned of essential oil. Aera pure essential oil capsules last an average of 500 hours and only require a new capsule. No cleaning is required. No cleaning of the Aera device and no cleaning of adjacent surfaces.
The amount of essential oil in the air from an ultrasonic diffuser cannot be finely controlled so the amount being inhaled varies quite a lot and could be several hundred molecules in every million. Aera’s aroma output is finely controlled and user adjustable, so the inhalation is uniform and the amount of aroma in the air is less than 10 molecules in every 1.0 million. This ultra-low “trace quantity” allows Aera to say that it is hypoallergenic, meaning less likely to stimulate chemical sensitivity and allergic response.
What is this famed Microdroplet Technology?
Aera’s Microdroplet Technology converts liquids to ultra-tiny droplets which are 100 times smaller than traditional aerosol droplets. They transition instantly to invisible aroma molecules which can fill a room in seconds with consistent scent.
